Freedom to Choose™ offers additional optional insurance coverage through Canada Life, giving you and your family the flexibility to protect what matters most — beyond your core Benefits of Film plan. This coverage is separate from your core plan and is not funded by employer contributions. If you choose to enrol, you are responsible for paying the premiums directly to Canada Life.
What's Available
Life Insurance
Up to $1,000,000 in coverage to help take care of your loved ones with a one-time payment upon your death. It can help with everyday living expenses, paying off debts, or funding an education. If a covered person is diagnosed with a terminal illness, they may also be eligible for a portion of the insurance proceeds. Coverage is available for you, your spouse, and your eligible children (coverage for children begins 15 days from birth), up to age 85.
Critical Illness Insurance
Up to $250,000 in coverage if you are diagnosed with a covered condition, paid as a one-time lump sum for you to use however you need — whether for bills, private nursing, home modifications, or treatment. Coverage is available for you and your spouse, up to age 65. A broad range of conditions are covered, including heart attack, stroke, life-threatening cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and more.
Accident Insurance
Up to $250,000 in coverage if you are seriously injured or pass away as a result of a covered accident — whether at work, at home, or on vacation. Coverage is available for you or your family, including your spouse and/or dependants, up to age 85.
How Coverage Works
Eligibility and Application
You and your spouse must be under age 65 to apply for coverage. Coverage amounts, eligibility requirements, age limits, and approval are determined by Canada Life. Depending on the amount of coverage you apply for, medical information may be required.
Family Coverage
Depending on the product selected, coverage may also be available for your spouse and/or dependants.
Portability
Once approved, coverage remains in place as long as you continue to pay the required premiums. This coverage is portable and may continue even if you are no longer covered under Benefits of Film.
